Seth Goetz and Dean Treftz, 2014 graduates of the AILP seminar, worked with representatives of the Iowa-Nebraska Chapter of the American Immigration Lawyers and the ACLU of Iowa to research the constitutionality of the widespread practice of detaining immigrants, at the request of United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement, in Iowa county jails.  In Fall 2014, many counties stopped detaining Iowa residents purely on the suspicion that they lacked immigration authorization.
