About the Special Immigrant Juvenile Status Project

The Advanced Immigration Law & Policy Seminar partnered with the Iowa-Nebraska Chapter of the American Immigration Lawyers Association to produce materials to assist judges and immigration practitioners in the state of Iowa with special immigrant juvenile status (SIJS) cases.

These materials fall into three categories:

Resources for Attorneys

Resources for Judges

SIJS Trainings & Presentation Materials

Image of Attorney Handbook and Clearinghouse
Iowa attorneys can use the Attorney Handbook to assist immigrant youth in petitioning for SIJS.

Attorneys can also use the Clearinghouse to search by judge and county for SIJS state court orders and related filings.

Image of Juvenile and Probate Guides
Both Guides--for Iowa probate and juvenile courts--outline the steps a judge takes in adjudicating an SIJS-related petition for immigrant youth.

Judges can also download model court orders in PDF or Microsoft Word format.
